LAMB & CALF SKINS
During early spring each year a number of newly born lambs and calves do not survive birth. These casualties of nature are processed, to produce one of the world’s softest, warmest and lightest double-face leathers.

Broadtail Lambskin
This is the skin of the newly born lamb which has been closely shorn during processing. This gives a rich marked appearance similar to velvet. These skins are chrome tanned and available in a variety of colours.

Calf skin

Skin of a newborn calf. These skins are chrome tanned and available in a variety of natural colours.

EUROPEAN RED FOX
The European red fox (Vulpes vulpes) was released in Victoria, Australia in the 1860’s for the fur trade. These animals have played a major role in the decline of southern Australian native fauna. Foxes are also an agricultural threat as they prey on lambs and other livestock.

Fox fur
These skins are chrome tanned and only available in its natural length and colour.

PAUA SHELL FABRIC
Lustrous and vibrantly coloured, paua shell comes from abalone, which is only found in the seas in New Zealand. This highly colourful shell is processed onto cloth to provide flexibility and laser-cut to shape.

VELVET
Velveteen - 100% cotton.
Silk velvet - 100% silk.

Silk/viscose velvet - 30% silk, 70% viscose velvet. Used as outer gusset on some bags.

OPOSSUM
The New Zealand brushtail opossum (Trichosurus vulpecula) is a nocturnal marsupial with dense, soft fur that is sought after for garments and fashion accessories. The opossum was introduced to New Zealand 1858 to a heavily forested area of Southland. It quickly adjusted to the New Zealand climate and now thrives in forests where it threatens native species of flora and fauna. Limiting opossum numbers helps protect New Zealand’s magnificent forests and provides the basis for the South Island’s wild fur industry.

Full length opossum fur
This is the natural length of the fur on the opossum skin.

Shorn opossum fur

Fur is shorn during processing to provide a shorter length of fur on the opossum skin.

Opossum is chrome tanned and available in a variety of colours.

NAPPA LEATHER
Nappa leather is a soft, full grain leather produced from chrome tanned deer skin.
